Rachelle Bergen has worked in special education for three decades. Her experience spans a number of school boards across Canada and as far away as New Zealand where she studied and trained in that country's bicultural teaching approach (Maori and non-Maori). She is the published author of two children's books and has been awarded the OSSTF, Dr. S.G.B. Robinson Travelling Grant for educational research in travel and ETFO’s Women’s Writing award for her children’s storybook; Abby Hoffman – Attempting the Absurd. She currently sits on an OSSTF’s ‘Canadian Women’s Lives’ writing team where they are writing and creating resources for educators.
Rachelle is fluent in American Sign Language. She has also worked in journalism as a producer for The Canadian Press and CTV in Ottawa. Her M.Ed focusses on Indigenous education, pedagogy and methodologies and how Western education, educators and students would all flourish with a deeper and richer understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.
